Julia likes to say she’s “almost native” to Washington state: although she was born in Missouri – she was in Washington by age 1. With a passion for public outreach and government relations, Julia graduated from Western Washington University with a degree in Communications. She started her career at two leading public affairs/public relations firms in Seattle: Northwest Strategies (now Strategies 360), and MWW Savitt (now MWW Group). Julia took her communications savvy to the nonprofit sector – leading outreach efforts for Mothers Against Violence in America (MAVIA), the American Diabetes Association (ADA) Washington office, and the Washington Dental Service Foundation (Delta Dental). Julia then freelanced for several years as a communications consultant for numerous organizations. Today, Julia and her husband, Arvid, are busy chasing after two very active boys (Oscar and Fritz) and their corgi puppy (Elvis). Julia has served on a number of nonprofit boards on Mercer Island – including the Mercer Island Preschool Association (MIPA), Sunnybeam Preschool, Lakeridge Elementary PTA, Mercer Island Youth & Family Services Foundation, and Patti’s Play School. Julia also is passionate about advising Lakeridge Elementary’s community service club, K-Kids.
